RWD Technologies and Factory Logic Team to Deliver Lean Manufacturing Solutions

Lean Transformation Services Combine with Lean Operations Management Software to Support the Demand-Driven Enterprise

August 4, 2004 - Troy, MI and Austin, TX.   RWD Technologies, Inc. and Factory Logic today announced a strategic relationship to provide lean manufacturing solutions that combine RWD’s transformation and implementation services with the Factory Logic™ Lean Operations Management software. The jointly delivered solution will help manufacturers accelerate the transformation to a demand-driven enterprise through rapid and effective adoption of lean principles, tools, and techniques. Through its Performance Solutions Division, RWD Technologies is a recognized global leader in lean implementation, with offices and clients around the world. Factory Logic is the leading provider of a new generation of manufacturing and supply chain software built from the ground up to support the key concepts of lean manufacturing and the Toyota Production System (TPS).

“No longer a passing trend, the principles of lean have become an essential business strategy for many organizations in order to remain competitive in a global economy,” stated Dan Slater, President of RWD’s Performance Solutions Division. “This alliance provides a demonstrated lean behavior and systems transformation process combined with an enterprise scalable lean software solution that will help manufacturers speed company-wide deployment of lean concepts to achieve sustained performance improvements.”

“Whether it’s a single plant in the middle of a complex supply chain or a global multi-divisional corporation with a variety of ERP systems, the goal for today’s leading organizations is to become a demand-driven enterprise by moving to the next level of lean performance,” added Allan Wilson, Factory Logic President and CEO. “Factory Logic has teamed with RWD to provide an approach that has not been available until now – expert guidance combined with a comprehensive infrastructure that fully supports lean techniques from day one and provides a consistent lean operations management layer across the entire corporation.”

RWD and Factory Logic entered into this strategic relationship based on a shared understanding that a lean management system cannot be created from, or tacked on to, a foundation originally designed to support push-based manufacturing management. In order to be effective, it must be built from the ground up around lean tools and techniques, which have an entirely different focus from those used in an ERP/MRP based system. Factory Logic provides a comprehensive, scalable infrastructure to simplify lean operational management up to the level of entire factories, enterprises, and supply chains, while enabling integration of lean operations with ERP and other enterprise-level business systems.

As part of the overall solution, RWD and Factory Logic will jointly develop transformation and implementation approaches based on each client’s particular needs. A combination of RWD and Factory Logic consultants will provide management guidance, education and training, value stream mapping, lean process development, and software training and implementation. The Factory Logic software will be deployed in support of improved manufacturing and supply chain value streams as they are created.

Commenting on the strategic relationship, Dick Slansky, ARC Advisory Group Senior Analyst said, “The teaming of RWD Technologies and Factory Logic represents a powerful and complete lean manufacturing solution. RWD brings to the table a recognized leader for the training of lean principles and establishment of lean cultures within companies. With the addition of Factory Logic to RWD's lean expertise the customer now has the benefit of a software suite that supports day-to-day operations and implements the lean solution unique to the user's manufacturing processes."
