Timothy Costello
Tim Costello's contributions to modern manufacturing include a long
and distinguished record of combining technology and efficient
production systems to optimize quality and customer service.
Through his fifteen years at General Motors, Mr. Costello was responsible
for all midsize vehicles covering nine product lines and seven vehicle
assembly plants from Canada to Mexico. Three of his nine vehicles
ascended to the J.D. Powers "top-10 list" for quality,
and one of his plants was rated as the highest quality assembly operation
in North America.
Mr. Costello then served as Vice President of Worldwide Manufacturing Operations for Applied Materials, Inc., where he initiated the conversion of Applied Materials' production system from a "job shop" system to a "lean" production system. The resulting improvements in cycle time, quality, cost and delivery changed the paradigm of manufacturing at Applied Materials and enabled manufacturing to become a critical element of Applied Materials' global competitiveness. Industry analysts have referred to it as a key to Applied Materials profitability and market share growth. Mr. Costello now serves as CEO of Builder Homesite, Inc., where he believes lean production will be of particular benefit to the industry.
